Your Float Plane Experience
Taking a float plane into the Alaska backcountry is part of the adventure. Regal Air operates small aircraft with strict weight limitations, so pack efficiently and follow the guidelines sent prior to your trip. Once airborne, you’ll be treated to an unbelievable view of the Susitna Valley, winding rivers, and endless spruce forests. The flight typically takes about 45 minutes and lands directly on Lake Creek, where our staff will meet you dockside and help you get settled for your stay.
Travel to Lake Creek Lodge
Reaching Lake Creek is simple. For most guests, it’s only two flights: a direct commercial flight into Anchorage, followed by a scenic float plane trip with Regal Air straight to the lodge. If your travel schedule requires an overnight stay in town, we recommend the Lakefront Hotel. It sits on the edge of Lake Hood where the float planes operate, offers easy access for early departures, and has ample freezer space for storing your fish at the end of your trip.
Looking to Add a Little Extra Adventure?
If you’re already in Alaska and want to add something unforgettable to your trip, Regal Air offers incredible day flights across bear country, bright-blue glaciers, rugged mountains, and remote coastlines. Their pilots know the landscape better than anyone, and they can take you places you simply can’t reach by road. Whether it’s a glacier landing, bear viewing, or a sightseeing loop over the Susitna Valley, a day trip with Regal Air is one of the best ways to see the true scale of Alaska.
Regal Air allows up to 50 lbs of gear per person on float-plane seat-fare trips, and recommends packing in soft, flexible bags rather than rigid suitcases. Guests should arrive at least 30 min before their flight (or 1 hr for float trips), and dress in layers — even summer days can be cool when up in the air. “Additional bags and/or weight can be brought to the lodge at an additional fee but may not arrive at the same time due to aircraft weight limitations.
Because float-plane seating and load-balance are strictly managed, we recommend traveling as light as possible, consolidating gear in soft duffles, and limiting valuables or fragile items. If you plan to bring larger or heavier gear (fishing equipment, coolers, extra luggage), please contact us ahead of time — and double-check with Regal Air for current baggage rules and space availability.

Alaska Airlines accepts the 50lb fish boxes that can be purchased from Regal Air. We recommend bringing a roll of duct tape to wrap the boxes and the frozen, vacuum sealed fillets easily will transport safely back to the lower 48. No ice packs needed.
