American flag and Alaska state flag flying at Lake Creek Lodge in Alaska
Alcohol Policy

Lake Creek Lodge is unique in that we have a full bar operating within our main lodge. You will find river traffic and locals who visit from time to time. Our pricing is reasonable. Some guests have purchased adult beverages in Anchorage to bring with them, which is acceptable. However, please consider that float plane charters charge by the pound, which will impact the total weight you can bring with you.

Summer in Alaska is magical. The incredibly long days provide multiple weather experiences before the sun sets. June through July brings warm days. When it rains, it is usually a thunderstorm or a short period that passes relatively quickly. Lows are in the upper 50’s, with highs at times reaching 80 degrees. In August, we can feel a small shift in the weather. Sometimes, a longer period of rain will interrupt our day and last for a few days. The temperature remains mild. If you join us by the end of August and into September, you will experience both the sun and the rain as fall approaches. A longer rain event can impact water levels and require us to suspend fishing until the river recedes. We usually experience this once a season. A key weather consideration: Float planes fly by sight. Low clouds or fog will delay arrivals and departures on those days. It’s best to provide yourself with extra time when booking return trips, in case of a delay.

Many of our customers bring their own waders and boots, knowing that they fit well. However, we have a large selection you can use while you are here. You will not win any fashion awards, but you will stay dry. We do recommend full waders for these rivers.

Our lovely state bird. At Lake Creek, we cut our grass and grounds low and tight to help eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Around the lodge, they generally only show themselves in the evening and during a rain shower. In general, they are not bad. If you venture out into the tall grass, ferns, and forest, you will find a healthier population of mosquitoes.

The staff at Lake Creek work for the “season” and puts in long hours to make sure your adventure is memorable. This includes guides, fish cleaners, housekeeping, and cooks. Any recognition of their service is greatly appreciated.

You can keep legal catches that follow the State of Alaska fishing regulations. If you need help with fish identification or concerns for table fare, please ask any of our staff for help. We do appreciate you respecting the resource and being mindful of these abundant, but challenged species.

We have a fish cleaning shack where guides will clean, dry, vacuum, and seal your catch. You can then place them in our freezers to help prepare them for the trip home. Fish boxes are available for purchase (check with Regal Air, etc.), and most hotels provide freezer storage for customers spending the night in Anchorage. Anchorage airport also provides this service in case of a travel delay.

You can bring your own equipment; most guests with a fishing background do. We also have equipment you can use. If you are bringing your own, here are a few recommendations:

    • Kings: Rod and reel for 15–30# line, 8’6″.
    • Sockeye: Level wind is recommended, line weight 10–15#, 7′ to 8’6″, or a 6/7 or 7/8 weight fly rod.
    • Silvers: Spinning rod and reel, 10–15# rating, 7’–8’6″, or a 7/8 weight fly rod.
    • Please bring what you are comfortable with.
    • Trout: Light spinning rod and reel 8-12# , or 6/7 weight fly rod.
    • If you need anything, let us know and we will get you adjusted.

Children are welcome and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The recommended age is 8–9 years old and up. Keep in mind some fishing techniques, like wading in faster waters, may be difficult. There are plenty of opportunities to catch fish right off our lawn or in a boat that should entertain them.

We, somewhat reluctantly, have Starlink, and you will have access to the internet. But a word of caution: you are on vacation—try to have fun!

All our electricity is provided by on-site generators. If you have a medical device, please inform us, and we will make sure to operate our generator 24 hours a day while you are here. We generally do so, but for your safety, please make us aware.

Each cabin has a working wood stove, as does our main lodge, which can be used to dry damp gear.

Oh dear, this question again. Yes, there are bears all over this region, however rarely do we have encounters that require bear spray or a weapon. Bears are often spending their summer days eating berries and chasing the same fish you are after. Be bear aware, but no need for extra-ordinary precautions.

"It's like an fisherman's 4-H camp. Great cabins, hardy meals, and an entertaining bar. Oh, and the fishing is out of this world. We'll be back!"
